The Waikato District Health Board
(Waikato DHB) is one of New Zealand's most progressive publicly-funded health organisations. It's responsible for funding and providing services to achieve good health and independence for the 320,000 people living in the Waikato district of the central North Island of New Zealand.
The district, renowned for adventure tourism, life sciences research and agribusiness, is centred upon the city of Hamilton. It spans from the east coast to west, stretches south to the skifields of the North Island volcanic plateau and covers large areas of farmland and unspoilt native bush.
Waikato is home to a diverse population including relatively large Maori and rural communities, which influence the way health services are funded and delivered. Services are provided by a wide range of independent providers and Health Waikato, the Waikato DHB's provider of hospital and related services.
